Smoke and Clove
A delicious, festive cocktail featuring smoky mezcal with a bright hit of citrus.

Smoke and Clove
Serves 1
INGREDIENTS
1/4 cup mezcal
8-10 whole cloves
1 1/2 tbsp fresh orange juice
1/2 tbsp fresh lime juice
2 dashes Angostura bitters
1/2 cup dark brown sugar
INSTRUCTIONS

For the Clove Simple Syrup: Stir together brown sugar, 1/2 cup water and cloves in a small saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring often, until the sugar dissolves, 2 to 3 minutes. Remove from heat, and cool completely, about 30 minutes. Discard cloves. Syrup can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for one week.
- Place mezcal, 1 1/2 tbsp Clove Simple Syrup, orange juice, lime juice and bitters in a cocktail shaker. Add crushed ice to fill shaker. Secure lid on shaker; shake until well chilled, about 15 seconds. Strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a clove-studded orange wheel.
