1 lb fresh green beans, trimmed
2 thick-cut bacon slices, chopped
2 tbsp balsamic vinegar
1 1/2 tsp light brown sugar
1/2 tsp crushed red pepper
3 (2-ounce) portobello mushroom caps, cleaned and cut into 8 wedges (or 1 [8-ounce] package cremini mushrooms, halved)
1/4 cup finely chopped (about 1 medium) shallot
2 tsp minced garlic (about 2 cloves)
3/4 tsp kosher salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
